In collaboration with the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), Panasonic R&D Center Singapore achieved the No. 2 position in the audio-visual emotion recognition sub-challenge of the Multimodal Emotion Recognition Challenge (MEC) 2017. The challenge (*1) is aimed at the comparison of multimedia processing and machine learning methods for automatic audio and visual emotion analysis.

Apart from this achievement, collaborating with I2R, Panasonic R&D Center Singapore also co-authored a paper titled “Audio-Visual Emotion Recognition using Deep Transfer Learning and Multiple Temporal Models”.

The paper, having been accepted at ACM International Conference on Multimodal Interaction (ICMI) 2017 (*2), presents the techniques used in our contribution to Emotion Recognition in the Wild (EmotiW) 2017 under the audio-video-based sub-challenge, the purpose of which is to classify the six basic emotions (angry, sad, happy, surprise, fear and disgust) and neutral.
