Learning & Vision
Sugiri leads PRDCSG’s Learning & Vision team — a group of skilled, experienced and passionate specialists in machine learning/deep learning/artificial intelligence (AI) for computer vision applications.
His team’s mission is primarily to contribute to Panasonic’s businesses by transforming advanced technologies into tangible results, as evident in our recently launched products (e.g. Face Recognition Server).
The Learning & Vision team has achieved multiple awards both externally and internally, such as:
- 2017 MS-CELEB-1M Challenge Track 1 & 2
- 2018 NVIDIA AI City Challenge (Track 2)
- AI Driving Olympics (AI-DO in 2018 and AI-DO-2 in 2019)
- 2017 Panasonic Technology Symposium Award
- 2018 Panasonic Technology Symposium Award
The team has also been prolific in paper publication at top-level conferences, such as ICCV, CVPR, NeurIPS and CoRL.
Sugiri was earlier involved in test-bedding projects leveraging opportunities made available by Singapore government agencies, namely:
- Smart queue monitoring for taxi stands under the Smart Nation initiative
- Person & vehicle re-identification for the Safety & Security Industry Programme (SSIP) 2020
He obtained his B.Eng and M.Eng degrees from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2001 and 2003 respectively. After graduation, he joined Panasonic R&D Center Singapore. He has since accumulated experience and know-how in machine learning, deep learning and AI. In line with Panasonic’s core values, he believes in “make people before products”.
