Chong Soon oversees Panasonic R&D Center Singapore’s Advanced Technology Group in Singapore. His core focus revolves around inventing new technologies to enrich people’s life and bring them closer.
He is an active contributor to the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) and the ISO/IEC Motion Video Experts Group (MPEG), where important video and audio compression standards like MPEG-2, H.264, MP3 etc. were created. He is also the chairman of Multimedia Representation Technical Committee under the Information Technology Standards Committee of Singapore and holds the responsibility of approving new International standards on behalf of Singapore.
Majoring in Electrical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore and joining Panasonic R&D Center Singapore in 1998, Chong Soon helps the team to develop MPEG video compression technologies. In 2008, in recognition of the Video Algorithm Team’s work for H.264 AVC high-profile development, Panasonic received a Primetime Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. He currently holds more than 120 patents and is still actively inventing new ideas in his day-to-day work.
