RIE2025: Panasonic R&D Center Singapore Will Contribute to 4 Significant Areas of Research

April 19, 2021 | Technology

The Singapore government continues to recognise the essential role research, innovation and enterprise play in the development of the country’s knowledge-based economy. RIE2025, the 5-year plan that began this year, reflects the government’s sustained, long-term commitment to these fields by investing approximately 1% of Singapore’s GDP. Panasonic R&D Center Singapore is ready to support the government’s RIE2025 efforts by committing our state-of-the-art technology, which we strongly believe, is the bedrock of future RIE2025 success.

Supporting the RIE2025 structure in Manufacturing, Trade and Connectivity (MTC)

The continued growth and competitiveness of Singapore’s manufacturing and engineering sectors is a result of building on the strengths of present technology while exploring new technologies to advance innovation.

Leveraging our developments in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, we aim to create smart factory solutions built to make the MTC sectors more resilient and better equipped for future challenges. The digitalisation of supply chains adds both flexibility and efficiency to operations and can potentially be the key to solving the question of sustainability often posed to these sectors.

Supporting the RIE2025 structure in Urban Solutions and Sustainability (USS)

A substantial part of Singapore’s efforts in this area is to continue to build a city that is liveable, resilient and sustainable in the long run. Focusing on the transformation of the built environment sector, our innovative spatial solutions that include 3D Building Information Modelling (BIM) improve the planning, designing and constructing as well as the daily operations and maintenance of buildings. Diverse physical infrastructures that include utilities such as water, refuse, electricity and roads can put to full use the advancements of this technology.

Another viable area for greater research is the development of more complex Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) for greater control and monitoring by computer-based algorithms. Intertwining physical and software components to operate on different scales involves transdisciplinary approaches. Similar to IoT, CPS involves a greater integration of physical and computational elements. We are equipped to further research the depth of this technology.

Supporting the RIE2025 structure in Human Health and Potential (HHP)

We have strengthened our data analytics capabilities to facilitate the transformation of the public health system towards a more data-driven and patient-centric model. COVID-19 has shed light on the importance of rapid and decisive use of data analytics to support and deliver healthcare to the population.

We believe there are further avenues of growth in the use of digital tools such as Automated Machine Learning (AutoML) in the health sector that will potentially improve health outcomes, cut healthcare costs and advance clinical research to deliver care at scale. In addition to ensuring optimal results, AutoML will reduce the demand for human experts and make techniques of use easier for health professionals to employ in their everyday clinical workflow.

Supporting the RIE2025 structure in Smart Nation and Digital Economy (SNDE)

Worldwide recognition for our cutting-edge technology enables us to create advanced research infrastructure and purposefully designed facilities to quickly translate our R&D efforts into commercial benefits for the industry.

Harnessing the developments we have made in explainable Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain, two of the current most competitive areas of tech, we intend to support the rapid digital transformation across all sectors of the economy. The work we do, the talent we attract and the technology we create at Panasonic R&D Center Singapore reinforce Singapore’s position as a trusted digital innovation hub.

In the wake of incredible disruption and downturn in the economy due to COVID-19, we, Panasonic R&D Center Singapore, find unexpected new opportunities for innovation and creativityspurred on by necessity to help transform Singapore for a post COVID-19 future.  As an R&D arm of Panasonic Corporation in Singapore, we reckon RIE2025 provides an ecosystem for us to harness the momentum of what is possible and practical.  Given our never-yielding resolve for “A Better Life, A Better World”, we strive to help innovate Singapore’s tomorrow with our cutting-edge core tech.
